The Language of Jordanian Service Programmes: Broadcaster Persona, Publics, and Participation

Dr. Jona Fras, an expert in Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies, spoke with Sijal about his research on the language used on various Jordanian radio programs. While the language of specific programs is often explicitly “Jordanian” in dialect, Dr. Fras explored the language beyond its nationalistic undertones, namely how differences in language change how radio hosts interact with and attract listeners.
